Liposuction

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a procedure that surgically removes stubborn fat deposits in localized areas resulting in a contoured and slimmer body. In liposuction, a small puncture is made in the skin, after which fat is loosened by various methods, and then surgically removed from targeted areas using a stainless steel suction tube. After the procedure, the treated area becomes more sculpted in appearance.

The procedure is especially good for women and men who are of normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to look disproportionate with the rest of their body. These fat deposits are sometimes the result of heredity and usually do not respond to diet and exercise.

Liposuction may be performed at any age but the best results are obtained when skin has enough elasticity to achieve a smooth contour following fat removal. It should be known that liposuction should not be used to treat obesity or be a substitute for poor diet and exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite or loose saggy skin.

Areas that respond well to liposuction include:

  • Thighs

  • Hips and buttocks

  • Abdomen and waist

  • Upper arms

  • Back

  • Inner knee

  • Chest area

  • Cheeks, chin and neck

  • Calves and ankles
