Lasers - Picosecond and eCO2

Skin resurfacing and stimulation with lasers is the mainstay of scar treatment.

Light and heat energy is used to break down scar tissue and force remodelling of collagen over the course of months to a year.

Downtime varies depending on the lasers and intensities used, and 1 treatment is done every 4-6 weeks for up to 5-8 sessions for optimal results.

Improvement in scars have been shown to continue for up to a year after the last session of laser, so be patient and watch as your face continues to improve over time.

TCA Cross & AGNES Radio-frequency

Certain scars require slightly more precision in management. Scars such as narrow ice-pick scars tend to be difficult to treat with lasers, and the use of chemical peels or radio-frequency needling allows stimulation at the depth of these scars.

A treatment is done every 4 to 6 weeks, and depending on the response, it can take between 3 to 5 sessions for optimal resurfacing.

This treatment is often followed by lasers to continue with the remodelling of the scar for optimal results.

Deeper scars are often stuck down to the deeper dermis and require manual release with a needle.

This allows levelling off of scars for a smoother contour and a less obvious scar.

Fillers are then placed beneath the scar to prevent it from re-attaching and also to stimulate collage growth for a more permanent improvement.

Nicknamed “The Healer”, Rejuran treatments involve the injection of salmon-derived DNA proteins (Polynucleotides). Its introduction into the skin has two main effects - increased cellular regeneration and increased mechanical support to cells.

Akin to providing cement and bricks to a partially damaged house, regular rejuran use ensures optimal health and structure of the skin.

Results are best seen after 3 consecutive monthly treatments, with maintenance at 3 to 6 monthly intervals.

Combination of Lasers & Fillers

Because most acne scars from teenage years can be stubborn and deep, we use lasers and fillers to treat the deeper layers under your skin. Just one type of treatment such as the Fractional Co2 Laser alone is usually not sufficient.

Frequently Asked Questions about Acne Scars

  1. How is The Aesthetic Studio’s acne scar treatments different from other clinics/spas?

We don’t just use one type of acne scar treatment to treat your acne scars. We understand every patient’s skin condition and scar type(s) are different so we use a combination of lasers and fillers to achieve optimal results. Furthermore, our doctors have the required experience and tools to properly address all types of acne scar.

  2. What kind of acne scars are most suitable for the treatments?

All acne scars including the common ice pick scars, deep box scars, rolling scars, and hypertrophic scars are suitable for the acne scar treatments offered at The Aesthetic Studio. Our doctors will use a combination of lasers and fillers depending on your condition to achieve the optimal results to help you regain your complexion and confidence.

  3. Will I experience any pain or discomfort?

There will be slight tingling sensations during each treatment, but it all depends on each individual’s threshold. Most of our acne scar patients find the treatments tolerable and some don’t even feel anything at all. Numbing cream will be applied to reduce any pain and discomfort.

  4. Is there any downtime?

Depending on the acne scar treatment you undergo, downtime expected will vary accordingly. However, we will tailor treatments to minimise downtime where necessary.

  5. How many acne scar treatments do I need and how long will it take to see visible results?

It depends on the seriousness of your acne scars. For mild cases, it can take only 3-5 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart. For more serious cases, it can take up to 5-8 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart. It might seem like a long time, but it’s well worth the investment.

  6. How long is each acne scar treatment session?

Depending on the acne scar treatments you undergo, each session can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
