Let’s Talk Lips: Your Guide to a Fuller, Smoother Pout

Lips are one of the major focal points of our face, and an even-shaped, plump, well-hydrated pout has remained a timeless aesthetic ideal. There’s a reason so many celebrities have made specific shades of lipstick their trademark over the years!

But have you ever found that your beloved lipstick ‘cracking’ into an unseemly mess despite meticulous applications of all the best lip liners, balms, and gloss? If so, you are not alone.

Lip Wrinkles?

Lip wrinkles are exactly what the name suggests: thin, vertical lines that occur on the lips. They form on both the lips themselves as well as on the skin of the upper lip in particular, and often stretch from one side of the mouth to the other.

Otherwise referred to as lipstick lines or smoker’s lines, they can occur not just because of a smoking habit, but also because of reduced collagen production caused by aging, and/or sun exposure. Unfortunately, lipstick tends to settle in these ‘cracks’, causing the lips to appear darker and deeper than they actually are. This phenomenon can easily add ten years to our appearance, and concealing them with makeup is a time intensive hassle few of us can afford.

Treatment Options

Thanks to mainstream media, our idea of lip treatments tend to be vague impressions of excessive fillers and overly plumped results.

In truth however, cosmetic medicine has come so far that it can be almost impossible to tell whether someone has had a little help from science to enhance the shape and texture of their lips!

At The Aesthetic Studio, we have a couple of options personally selected by Dr. Lee, whose goal has always been to offer treatments that successfully address each client’s concerns while also minimising the insecurities they cause.

Filler: Restylane Kysse

A revolutionary in the field of lip fillers, Kysse is a hyaluronic acid filler especially formulated to enhance lip colour and texture while maintaining perfectly natural-looking structure (imagine soft kissable pout) and the full range of facial expressions.

As promised on their official site, Restylane Kysse adds volume, smooths upper lip lines for up to one year, and enhances lip colour. This ties in perfectly with Dr. Lee’s own philosophy of using minor enhancements to bring out and highlight each client’s natural beauty.

The technique of the doctor is the key essential – In Dr Lee’s over 20 years of experience, he has developed a signature proprietary technique taking into consideration the shape and volume of the lips and injecting just enough amount to create a natural looking lips to enhance each client’s features.

What should I expect?

According to clinical studies performed by Restylane®, the creator of Kysse, significant findings include:

  • 100% of participants reported aesthetic improvement.

  • 96% of participants reported fuller lips 8 weeks after treatment.

  • 98% of participants were satisfied with their Kysse lip filler results.

  • 96% of participants believed their results looked natural.

The Process: Lip Fillers

After completing a one-on-one consultation with Dr Lee, your skin will be cleansed before starting treatment.

A topical anaesthetic will then be used to numb the area(s) where you will receive the filler injection. The injection process can then begin, allowing some time for the anaesthetic that is a part of the Restylane® Kysse formula to help further numb the area.

The injection treatment will then be continued to achieve your desired results as previously discussed during your consultation.

After the procedure, the area should be gently massaged to ensure equal distribution of the formula. Any swelling at this point is completely normal and expected.

You are advised to avoid touching the area for at least six hours afterwards, as a precaution against accidentally injuring yourself while the area is still partially numbed.

Laser: Fotona LipLase™

Looking to avoid needles? Look no further than LipLase™, a specialist laser treatment for volumising lips that’s a firm favourite with The Aesthetic Studio.

As a non-invasive and non-surgical lip plumping procedure, Fotona LipLase™ stimulates collagen regeneration through the use of laser energy, resulting in fuller, smoother lips. In addition to evening out lip wrinkles, it has also proven effective at defining the cupid’s bow and improving overall lip colour; all while maintaining a natural look.

What should I expect?

Each session takes less than an hour and results are visible from the very first session. There is zero downtime or risk of bruising, which means you can resume your daily activities straight away!

Look forward to softer, more natural results since the collagen in your lips is encouraged and revived rather than there being any external solution introduced into the area.

The Process: LipLase™

LipLase™ heats the deep layers of the lips to boost collagen production. The outside of the lips and surrounding skin is treated as well as the inner lips, stimulating collagen from both sides.

Optical energy is transmitted in one sub-second long pulse sequence to avoid a build-up of heat. This stimulates new collagen production, improving lip elasticity and texture within 6-7 pulses.

For deeper collagen stimulation, the treatment is also done intra-orally on the inner lining of the lips. This reaches the deeper underlying skin tissues which help with collagen production from the inside and is entirely painless.

For optimal results, we usually recommend anywhere between 3 to 6 sessions, where the first 3 sessions are spaced 2 weeks apart, and the other 3 at an interval of one month apart as maintenance. Results can last up to 12 months.

This treatment stimulates your natural collagen production, so maintenance from time to time is encouraged to maintain your new plumped lips.

Recommended Aftercare

With either procedure, we recommend that you continue using sunscreen and lip balm as usual so as to continue protecting your newly enhanced, velvety pout.

Acne

A commonly overlooked yet physically and psychologically scarring problem, acne is a long-drawn problem that commences at puberty and can drag on well into one’s 20s to 30s. Adult-onset acne is also common, commencing in one’s 20s to 30s and dragging on well beyond that. Caused mainly by accumulation of dead skin, bacterial infection and uncontrolled inflammation, acne is a rather well understood medical condition. Hormonal influences, genetic factors, and even proposed dietary influences are known to be the underlying drivers of acne in some too. Early intervention is the best solution – less acne translates to less scarring, saving you precious time and finances required in attempting to resurface those pesky scars later on.

Acne Treatments

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels consist of mild acids that, when applied to skin, promote controlled exfoliation of skin as well as inactivation of the sebaceous units responsible for breakouts.

Used as a complimentary form of treatment to existing topical therapy, chemical peels can quickly and effectively control most forms of acne.

3-5 sessions are typically required at 2 weekly intervals to bring acne under control, with subsequent sessions done every 4-6 weeks for maintenance.

Carbon Peel

Using a specialised laser and a black carbon-based ink on the face, sebaceous glands can be targeted, bacteria killed, and mild exfoliation performed.

Sessions done at 2-4 weekly intervals can help keep acne bay while also helping to lighten any post-inflammatory pigmentation left by the acne and even reduce pore size.

AGNES

For the larger, stubborn and recurrent acne, the use of a highly selective probe to deliver high radio-frequency energy into the sebaceous unit effectively and permanently inactivates the gland.

This more permanent solution to acne allows for effective management of recurrent acne without having to resort to oral medication such as oral isotretinoin.
